Flying gracefully over Lincoln Cathedral, these four aircraft highlight the importance of past and present UK air defence. In this 1000 piece puzzle by Matthew Emeny, the Lancaster and Spitfire are shown breaking away from the formation, to symbolise old heroes moving aside to make way for the Vulcan and a modern-day fighter, the Typhoon, as the RAF continue their story.

This 500XL piece puzzle has been painted by the talented artist Matthew Emeny.

The pieces of this 500XL piece puzzle are double the size of those in a 1000 piece puzzle, which means it is perfect for beginners or those with sight or handling difficulties. Puzzle size 68x49cm

About the Artist:

Matthew Emeny Based in Ipswich, Suffolk, Matthew’s love for painting began in his teenage years when he started painting scenes from around the Suffolk countryside. In 2013 he acquired a collection of black and white postcards featuring WWII aircraft and it inspired him to paint his first military aircraft, bringing colour to one of the old postcard scenes.

The painting revealed a more detailed and realistic approach, and realism quickly became his preferred painting style. Matthew now specialises in military aviation, depicting aircraft found throughout history and today. He has a huge passion for detail and creates compositions which portray subjects accurately and in a way that is highly detailed and visually engaging.

From Gibsons:

As with all Gibsons jigsaws, we use 100% recycled puzzle board, FSC paper and work with the best artists from all around the world. The beautifully illustrated pieces are designed to fit perfectly together; in fact, we use the thickest puzzle board on the market. Everyone loves a Gibsons jigsaw, even Her Majesty the Queen has been spotted with one.

We have made some positive changes to our processes, so you can be sure you’re getting the same great puzzles and know that they are kinder to the environment. Not only does the box have a fresh new look, but we’ve used biodegradable clear labels to secure the lid instead of shrink wrap to reduce our plastic waste.

There is a gloss coating on the box for extra protection and the puzzle pieces are stored in a plastic bag that can be recycled by most councils. Because the box is slightly smaller than our previous designs, we need less room to transport our products which reduces our carbon footprint and means you can store your puzzles more easily. We have also popped an artwork poster inside for you to reference whilst you piece together your lovely jigsaw puzzle.

Puzzle size is 68x49cm when complete.
